He states in his study that happily married couples dated for approximately 25 months before getting married. Couples who were unhappily married soon after they said “I do” and quickly divorced more often married at or after three years.

When we first did the boyfriend girlfriend thing... He is a very analytical person and takes a long time to make major decisions (8 months to buy a TV, 10 to buy a house... However, he bought a house in September, confusing things further because I thought he should have bought it with me...

he freaked out and then was okay with it a week later... you get the idea), So I knew it would be a problem when he finally decided to get engaged. instead he bought it with his dad telling me he had to make the decision right away in order to get the 8K from the government. What makes dating someone different if you are married other then if you are not?

He said he’s not worried, that if we move in together, he’s sure we’ll stay together, like it’s a forever thing.

Right now we see each other 4-5 times a week, and I mostly I stay at his place.

I personally know several couples who dated for five years or more and finally did get married (and are still happily married). Because I might have just given women stuck in dead end relationships which will never lead to marriage the false hope that they too will be one of those success stories, and the motivation (or excuse) to hang in their for another couple of years (or more). If you’re in a relationship with a man who is unable to ask for your hand in marriage, you have two choices:1. If you are in your mid thirties, staying in a dead end relationship could be socially, and maternally, suicidal.
